Strongly prefer an individual who is self-motivated, self-starter with
demonstrated ability to perform under minimum supervision. May be called upon to
act as a Team Lead. Adjusted workweek including evenings and weekends may be
required. Individual will also have excellent communication skills, both written
and verbal. This position is in our Network Services Division, Telecommunication
Group, and will be supporting a large WAN environment and smaller LAN
environments. Individual will be reporting to the Group Manager or Team Lead.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Sr Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, documenting
and supporting the WAN networks from a senior engineer support level, as well as
approximately 50 LAN networks. The Engineer will be required to be on-call after
hours, weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule with other team members. The
Engineer will be required to work overtime and odd working hours for various
projects. The Engineer will be required to work with and mentor other team
members.
In addition, the Sr Engineer will perform duties that include, but not limited
to:
* Design, implement, and maintain the established networking based platforms;
* Perform configuration changes as required
* Senior level troubleshooting;
* Technical implementation of network infrastructures.
SKILLS & ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Strongly prefer a qualified individual with a Bachelor's degree in related area
and have at least 8 years of experience in the field; comprehensive knowledge of
TCP/IP and Windows experience; outstanding written and verbal communication; and
be willing to work additional hours and weekends as required. Individual will
have excellent documentation skills including advanced engineer problem solving
skills.
Hands-on experience - Strongly prefer the ability to demonstrate knowledge with
the following skills:
* LAN/WAN Architecture, which includes DSL, IGRP, ISP, WAN backbone design, BGP,
OSPF, MPLS, VLan, Spanning tree, and Frame Relay architectures (8 - 10 years);
* Routing and Switching, including OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, VRRP, HSRP, VLan's,
Tunneling, Spanning tree, Trunking, Frame Relay, Multicasting, ISDN, MPLS. Must
know TCP/IP in depth. Must be able to routinely perform extensive and effective
troubleshooting practices (8 - 10 years);
* Networking Equipment: Cisco Routers, 2500, 2600. 7200 and 7500; Foundry
switches, routers and load balancers; Juniper routers; Sniffer analyzer tools (8
- 10 years);
* LAN/WAN Technologies: Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, GigE, Fast Ether channel, POS,
Frame Relay, ATM (8 - 10 years);
* Network Security Design, including extensive experience in ACLs, SNMP
Management, Security Management/Access SSH/SSL/HTTPS (5 years);
* Network Management Systems: Network sniffers; Solar Winds (5 years);
* Design Capabilities, including configuring Juniper, Foundry and Cisco routers
and switches for testing architecture implementations in a lab scenario. Ability
to configure other vendor's hardware is a plus(5 years).
* TCP/IP - Strong hands-on experience and a subject matter expert in TCP/IP with
the ability to quickly troubleshoot problems using sniffer tools, CLI, etc.
Extensive knowledge of packets;
* Routers & Switches - Strong fluency in implementing, monitoring, managing, and
troubleshooting switches and routers in general using IEEE starndards;
* Routing Protocols - IEEE stardard routing protocols. Vendor specific is a
plus;
* Network Design - Strong fluency to design, configure, monitor, maintain, and
extensively troubleshoot any router and switch;
* VoIP - Strongly prefer real-time VoIP experience, integrating voice and data
from the ground up.
A PLUS:
* Experience with full scope integration;
* CISSP - An engineer who understands security with a CISSP.
Desirable Certifications:
None required, but industry standard certifications a plus. Please properly list
all legitimate certifications held.
