Senior Network Architect:
Develops and implements strategies for the growth of computing, networking and communications technologies
Responsibilities Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
Develops, designs and implements a plan for the creation and ongoing enhancement of a computer network and a strategy for meeting the data communications needs into the future.
Evaluates and implements current and emerging communications technologies as appropriate to the mission and priorities achieving optimal benefit from adoption of new technology, while avoiding technical and financial risk.
Serves as the principal expert on computer networking technology; carries primary responsibility for supporting the computing networks and data communications infrastructure; this includes troubleshooting and repair, management and control, design and installation, and educating in the use of computer networks.
Supervises the activities of others in the who are responsible for the operation, implementation and technical support of network and communications hardware and software.
Maintains expertise in a wide range of computing hardware and software; backs up and augments the technical skills of other systems managers and technicians in the department.
Assists in other aspects of long and short range planning for Information Technology at Middlebury.
Supports administration on matters related to information technology and communications.
Participates in the design, planning and implementation of construction projects and renovations to ensure that computing and communications infrastructure issues are suitably addressed to meet current and long-term technological goals.
Works in close coordination with personnel and external contractors.
Assists and advises the staff directly in their use of networking and other computing resources.
Writes documentation to support the architecture design facilitate governance of the network and computing resources.
Mentors staff on how to utilize this technology.
Works in close coordination with all other departments to continue to develop an integrated strategy to address computing and communications needs using a ITIL framework.
Performs other duties as assigned to assist the deployment of enterprise platforms and in obtaining and maintaining it.
Experience 5 years experience in an computing environment with managerial and supervisory responsibilities required. Specific experience in the design and implementation of substantial computer networks. Knowledge of the principals, design and implementation of computer networks; extensive experience with major computer equipment hardware and software; familiarity with the specific requirements of an large enterprise computing environment.
